What's Up with Raw Meat Diets?

“I was recently asked why I add raw organ meats to my pet’s dry food diet.  A few years back my Persian  suffered a rare but horrific reaction to a vaccination that left him in poor health; in order to boost his system I consulted a holistic veterinarian, who urged me to put him on a raw organ diet

We began with a mixture of kosher meats including kidney, heart, and liver, pureed, and given in moderation with every meal. To this we added a ¼ teaspoon of digestive enzymes, formulated specifically for pet's. Over the course of a month he began to regain his strength, and thrive. Not only did he love the natural diet but it gave him a beautiful coat! An unexpected plus was the cure of unabated allergies and lethargy, a thing of the past.”  – Katy Suzann

Here's an interesting tidbit -- newborn puppies with “failing puppy syndrome” had a tablespoonful of chopped raw liver added to their mother's diet, and nearly overnight the pups regained health.  Stunted orphan puppies were given raw organ meat puree and suddenly gained in weight.  A young listless adult male stud was given a daily teaspoon of raw organ meats and began to flourish in vitality. A dog struck by a car who failed to respond even though surgery was successful, was given a tablespoonful of liver prescribed three times weekly and returned to optimum health.  All of the animals had one thing in common—a diet of organ meats (particularly liver), were added to their diet.

Perhaps liver should be called a “miracle” food?

For years veterinary nutritionists have witnessed this seemingly miraculous effect; if there is one single food that every dog or cat should have in its diet, that food would have to be puree of organ meats, in moderation they are a wonderful addition to most dog and cat diets.

As always, before changing your pet's diet its a good idea to consult the Vet!
